Tips to Keep Your Lawn Weed Free
Keeping your lawn weed free has many benefits. Your turf grass competes with weeds for nutrients and water. There are a few simple techniques you can practice that will discourage weed growth and allow your St. Augustine grass to thrive.
MOW REGULARLY. You never want to remove more than 1/3 of the blade height at once. Mowing too much off at once will shock your grass.
MOW YOUR LAWN AT A HIGHER SETTING. Ideally, 3.5 - 4 inches. This prevents your lawn from going into shock and allows your St. Augustine to keeps weeds choked out.
KEEP YOUR LAWN FERTILIZED. Keeping your lawn well fed encourages strong turf and prevents it from being stressed.
USE WEED KILLERS. Pre Emergent weed killers like Atrazine, help prevent weeds before they emerge. Post Emergent weed killers are great to be used as spot treatments on weeds you can see in your lawn.
